Herniated Disc Pain

IThe bones of your spine are separated by cushions called discs. The softer center of those discs can get pushed out through a tear in the tougher exterior. When that happens, it's known as a herniated disc or sometimes called a slipped disc or ruptured disc. Some people experience little or no symptoms from a herniated disc while others may have pain, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg.

What causes herniated disc pain?

Herniated disc pain can be caused by lifting a heavy object or twisting while lifting. However, it is most often because of disc degeneration due to age. As we age, our discs lose some of the water content which makes them less flexible and more prone to injury. Maintaining a healthy weight and taking care when lifting can help prevent injury, but it’s also the case that some people are genetically predisposed to developing a herniated disc.
